Hammertrack is a system for classic style XC skiing without snow.
The system is designed for use on lawns. You go with your regular winter skis and poles. Unlike roller-skiing on asphalt, this assure your pole-tips never slip, while it is soft and easy on the elbows.
The Swedish company Spårbolaget AB, founded in 2009 by a bunch of crazy XC fanatics including one PhD in polymer technology, has developed the product and also accounts for the production and sale.
You can also use Hammertrack for rental services. Perfect for competition (for example you may run dragracing-style duels on parallel tracks), training camps, sponsor events, children’s parties, bachelor(ette) parties, kick-off, etc., etc..
Elite skiiers and hard-training amateurs spending many hours on roller skis in the dryland season can train more and harder with less risk of injury when volume of training on roller skis is supplemented with high-intensity intervals (DP, diagonal or kick-DP) on lawn or indoors with the aid of Hammertrack.
Children and beginners can get their first introduction to summer skiing on a secluded field, with no risk of interference from cars, bicyclists or pedestrians. If you fall you fall soft. You avoid the increased risk of abrasions and fractures associated with roller-skiing on asphalt.
Facts about the system:
Weight approx 47kg per 100m complete track
Sections 5m with velcro-joints every 5 meters.
Attachment to the underlayment is not required.
Possible underlayment: cut grass lawn, artificial turf, running track, or indoors on an appropriate carpet that can withstand impact and provide grip for the poles.
Grip: Kick is enabled by using standard classic cross-country skiing with rughened grip zones or non-wax system. Hammertrack also provide a soft rubbery hotmelt adhesive that can be ironed into the grip zone for extra grip however that is usually not required.
Slide preparation is done in the track with soapy water.
Turns: Track sections are not bendable so changing direction may be done on a carpet if you wish to make a loop. The easiest way to enjoy Hammertrack is to lay a straight line and turn 180 degrees at each end, possibly with parallel tracks in order to avoid congestion.
Fine contaminants such as grass and fine soil does not interfere with the skiing as they become embedded in the grooves of Hammertrack’s running surface. However the underlayment shall not contain coarser loose material that may contaminate that track, such as gravel and coarse sand. The depth of the grooves is 0.5 mm.
Materials: Weather-resistant polyethylene high density with silicone additives in the running surface. Polycarbonate joint-plates with velcro fitting.
